Spectrometer Care
A policy regarding the maintenance of NMR spectrometers owned by
the LCP has been approved by the two P.I.'s who share
these instruments. A spectrometer and it's surrounding area will
be assigned to a representative from one of the two groups.
The representative will have the following duties:
-vacuum area and console every two months (or more if needed)
-clean gradient amp screens when necessary (about 2x/yr)
-Be responsible for keeping the general area neat and organized
-monitor nitrogen fills and helium levels weekly
-verify "do_full" from calendar note
-know how to reboot the assigned spetrometer
-monitor magnet drift rate
-keep printer filled with paper
-remove metal filings (w/ tape) from the magnet every two months
-change "sticky foot pad" sheets when necessary (1x/week)
-monitor cryoplatform where necessary
-Instrument specific duties (e.g. monitoring the pumps on the drx800)
-additional duties that become obvious or needed

NOTE WELL: Verifying N2 fills and Helium level is a trivial job, but failure
to complete this weekly task could lead to a disaster for which the assigned
representative will be responsible.
Vacation/sick/conference/etc.:
If a representative cannot complete his or her obligations during a specified
time interval, then they should get someone else in their group to temporarily
take over.
Spectrometer Maintenance: I will continue to periodically reserve time on
instruments for basic spectrometer maintenance such as s/n checks, pulse
calibrations, temp. calibrations, etc.
